CRJ-700

This is the interior of one of the planes I am qualified on--it is a CRJ-700, made by Bombardier and seats 70 people. This picture is from the Bombardier web site--I can tell you our blue leather seat covers do not look as luxurious as this! Actually, I think using the word luxurious and CRJ-700 in the same sentence is just wrong!!

Celebrity On Board

Flying from XNA (NW Arkansas) to LAX yesterday, had one of my favorite actresses onboard, Mare Winningham. Have enjoyed her work since she was in the "Thorn Birds" back in the early 80s--and she was most recently on Grey's Anatomy. She played Susan Grey, who was married to Meredith's father. She was very nice and kept to herself. Was a treat to have her onboard!

Putting Your Affairs in Order

A woman went to her doctor. The doctor, after an examination, sighed and said, 'I've some bad news. You have cancer, and you'd best put your affairs in order.'

The woman was shocked, but managed to compose herself and walk into the waiting room where her daughter had been waiting. 'Well daughter, we women celebrate when things are good, and we celebrate when things don't go so well. In this case, things aren't well. I have cancer. Let's head to the club and have a martini.'

After 3 or 4 martinis, the two were feeling a little less somber. There were some laughs and more martinis. They were eventually approached by some of the woman's old friends, who were curious as to what the two were celebrating. The woman told her friends they were drinking to her impending end. 'I've been diagnosed with AIDS.' The friends were aghast and gave the woman their condolences.

After the friends left, the woman's daughter leaned over and whispered, 'Momma, I thought you said you were dying of cancer, and you just told your friends you were dying of AIDS.' The woman said, 'I don't want any of those bitches sleeping with your father after I'm gone.

Drunk Flight Attendant

August 24, 2007 0 Comments A+ a-

A flight attendant appeared in court Monday to answer charges she was drinking alcohol on the job and told a captain "You're dead" as she was removed from the plane.

Flight attendant Sarah Mills faces charges she was drunk and threatened a pilot.

Public safety officers at Blue Grass Airport reported Sarah Mills, 26, threatened the Delta captain Sunday afternoon. Court documents said she smelled heavily of alcohol and admitted drinking whiskey onboard.

Best Laid Plans....

August 21, 2007 0 Comments A+ a-

The best laid plans usually go awry....

I was planning on being done with my trip at 9 in the morning yesterday--as we were leaving NW Arkansas, Chicago ATC issued a "ground stop." A ground stop is when the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system has too much traffic to handle and they do not let any airplanes heading to Chicago take off--usually happens when they slow the arrivals down because of weather, which was the case for us. So, we ended up being delayed for an hour. Got into Chicago at 10 am.

Then tried to go home. The stand-by gods had other plans for me, though. I ended up getting on the 5th flight to Washington, DC, which got me home at 11 p.m. I was so tired, so cranky, so wound up...

I did buy a book and am about halfway finished reading it--it is very good: The Memory Keeper's Daughter.

Nice about this past trip--we were flying on my birthday Sunday, and my #1 Flight Attendant, Steve, made an announcement and the passengers spontaneously started singing "Happy Birthday" to me! I brought tears to my eyes, soooo sweet! So, if you were on my flight that day, thank you very, very much!

Home today, working on switching around a couple of trips for September. We just got our "bid awards" yesterday--our schedules for September. I had a two day trip the first week of September, which I was able to get someone to take for me. We have the use of my Dad's beach house in Duck, NC...which is north of Kitty Hawk and south of Norfolk, VA. Hopefully a couple of my friends can come and play for a few days--Shelby and her husband, Jack may join us over the Labor Day weekend; possibly my friend, Deb and her husband. My daughter, Jennifer said she'd be down after the weekend...and bringing my amazing 4 year old grandson!!

Big travel month for me in September! First, Duck....then Kona, Hawaii. Norman and I are joining his best friend, Jimmy and his girlfriend, Linda, at a condo there. I have never been--and will probably start getting excited about it after we get back from Duck.

In the meantime, I am a slug today, recovering from my trip and getting some things around the house done.

Hillbilly to Hollywood

August 16, 2007 0 Comments A+ a-

I start a 4 day trip tomorrow--the first day my sign-in is at 10:40 in the morning, then we do five legs, and finish our day at 11:35 pm. That's a long day to begin with--and add a commute from Washington to Chicago, means I am getting up at 4 a.m. for a 6 a.m. departure and that means a very cranky Flight Attendant.

Nope, best for me to go in the night before, get a hotel with a crew rate, and sleep in a little for my long day!

After that 5 leg day, though, it is a cakewalk. We end up in Oklahoma City the first night; the next day-go back to Chicago then to NW Arkansas for the overnight (2 legs.) Next day-we leave NW Arkansas and go to Los Angeles and back--yep, the world famous "Hillbilly to Hollywood" turn! Next morning, we have one leg back to Chicago and are done before 9 a.m. Hopefully, I will be at home before noon on Monday.

Paris, again!

August 15, 2007 0 Comments A+ a-

So, Casey and I headed to Paris a couple of weeks ago. Our flight from Boston had over a hundred seats available, and we sat in Business Class. Ni-ice! We took the Air France bus to get to our hotel , which was across the street from the Place d'Italie Metro. (Casey works for a major hotel chain and we used her discount for the room: 5 nights for about $200...suh-weet! It's the perfect part-time job for a Flight Attendant--matches our flight bennies!))
.
It was cool and overcast with bouts of rain. It was cooler in Paris than it was in Alaska when I was there! Our first day there, after getting settled in the hotel and having a nap, we explored our little neighborhood and got a pizza to eat and found a grocery store. The next morning, we headed up towards the tourist area of the Latin Quarter. We walked, it rained, we stopped at Starbucks, and waited for it to subside. We had a lovely day, but walked a total of 7 hours that day! By the time we got back to the hotel, we were beat!

Saw this sign in a window--for a hip replacement!
After determining that a chocolate crepe in Paris contains ZERO calories, we indulged!
Having never done it before, we took the bateau down the Seine for a night view of all the tourist hot spots. Glad we had our jackets, because it was chilly! The same time last year when we were there was in the middle of a heat wave!
The next day, we went to Disneyland Paris! It was not crowded, probably because of the rain. It stopped and we enjoyed the day there. We did Alice's Labyrinth (that was fun, actually!) and rode Space Mountain--front car after only a 10 minute wait! That ride was much better than the Space Mountain in Orlando! (Or, could it have been because I was in the front car??)

This is Aurora's castle--from Sleeping Beauty (not Cinderella's!)
It is beautiful!
Chesire Cat from Alice's Labyrinth

We called this the Hookah Dude, at Alice's Albyrinth.
Does the Hookah Dude at US Disney Parks smoke? We found that odd!

Hookah Dude takin' a drag...

Who doesn't love the Teacups?

And, compass roses pointing the way to other Disney Parks when we were leaving.
