Thanksgiving follow-up
My baby brother brought his awesome family to join us for dinner on Thursday. There were Savage ladies everywhere--and Mike! (Well, Margo was in Palm Springs for a field hockey thing...) Dinner was good--it was great to taste those things you only eat once a year--green bean casserole, Watergate salad, sausage stuffing, and Jackie's world famous sweet potato casserole. (If it isn't world famous, it oughta be!)I asked Mike to say the blessing--this is what he said:
"Today we bow our heads in reverence...
Reverence to those who came before us, our nation's founders.
Reverence to those that brought us here, our parents.
Reverence to those that keep us safe, our service men and women.
Reverence for our partners and siblings.
Reverence to our families both here with us and those absent.
Reverence to God for this bounty before us.
God bless this food to our use, and us to your service, in Jesus' name. Amen."
He added that the last line was from the blessing our grandparent's used to say at dinner.
I thought it was perfect.
After dinner, we played some board games. 80's Trivial Pursuit--which didn't last long because apparently none of us were present in the 80's! Then we played Taboo and Catch Phrase. There was a lot of laughter in my kitchen and it was just the BEST day!
